Defensive Awareness & Positioning with Coach Jake Gott
Modern defense is more than just blocking shots and stopping goals. From anticipating plays to active puck retrieval to jumping into the rush, defense is more than ever part of the transition into offense.
Coach Jake Gott will lead this transformative session on how defense is evolving and how small changes to your daily game can compound. With over 30 years of youth, high school, junior and college background, the Defensive Awareness and Positioning sessions will be a building block for your next season and the future.
-Sessions are for birth years 2011-2016
-Cost is $40 per session ($30 for current SWYHA players in good financial standing)
-2 sessions; Saturday, January 31st from 6-7pm and Saturday, February 7th from 6-7pm
Body Contact/Checking with Coach Jake Gott
As players progress in their hockey development, they graduate into tiers that allow body checking. Checking is the third foundational skill, alongside skating skills and puck skills. To hone the checking skill, players need to master basic points of balance, skating and positioning to make good hockey plays and keep themselves and their opponents safe.
This clinic will focus on when to check, different types of checks and also when it may not be the right play. After the on-ice portion, we will quickly discuss some exercises that can help you improve your strength and durability to absorb body contact.
