HELP NEEDED: SWYHA Supports The Salvation Army 2023 Bell Ringing Campaign
The South Windsor Youth Hockey Association will again participate in The Salvation Army Greater Hartford Area Services Red Kettle campaign, which officially ‘kicks off’ during the Dallas Cowboy’s half time festivities on Thanksgiving Day – for all you country music fans, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Dolly Parton will be performing!
The Red Kettle initiative is The Salvation Army’s annual fundraising event to support those in need during the holiday season. Each year for the past 130 plus years, The Salvation Army has been ‘ringing bells’ to raise funds for their programs. These programs help families stay warm during the winter, be given a nutrient rich meal, provided clothing and many other life skills and benefits. By our organization lending a helping hand to Bell Ringing, we can help provide meals for those less fortunate or clothes for those ion need. On average, ringing the bell for just one hour raises enough money to provide 13 meal and kettles with a volunteer bell ringer like us also raise $30 more per hour than one without volunteers. Last year, we collected over $1,260 over the two days, as comparison, a very good location may only raise in $200-$400 per day!
Call To Action:
This year the SWYHA will be Bell Ringing at the South Windsor Stop & Shop on Ellington Road for three consecutive Saturdays: Saturday December 2nd, Saturday December 9th and Saturday December 16th. Each day there are 8 time slots available beginning at 10:00AM and finishing at 6:00PM.
We are asking each player/ family to help support the Bell Ringing by signing up for a 1-hour session. There are a total of 24 1-hour time slots over the three days, so plenty of opportunities to give back to our community. Players are encouraged to wear their Hockey clothing (e.g., uniform/ gear or pants/ jackets), we will also have our SWYHA banner proudly displayed!
